CHEA Attends the Nigeria Climate Change Forum

We are proud to announce that Climate Health Equity Africa (CHEA) was invited to participate in the prestigious Nigeria Climate Change Forum, held at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja. This landmark event convened an array of climate leaders, policy makers, civil society actors, academics, youth representatives, and international partners all united in one goal: to catalyze climate action and ensure a resilient and sustainable future for Nigeria.

Being part of this national dialogue marked a significant milestone in our journey as an organization committed to bridging the gap between climate change and public health, especially within marginalized communities in Nigeria.

About the Nigeria Climate Change Forum

The Nigeria Climate Change Forum is one of the country’s most impactful platforms for shaping national climate policies and scaling community-led climate solutions. Hosted annually, the forum seeks to:

Strengthen intersectoral collaboration for climate resilience.

Promote Nigeria’s commitments to the Paris Agreement.

Advance inclusive approaches to climate adaptation and mitigation.

Engage youth, grassroots leaders, and vulnerable communities in shaping the climate agenda.

This year’s forum, themed “Accelerating the Transition Towards A Net Zero Future in Africa” featured high-level plenaries, panel discussions, policy roundtables, and exhibitions showcasing innovative solutions across sectors.

Key Takeaways from the Forum

  • Intersectionality is key – Tackling climate change demands a cross-sectoral approach that includes health, education, agriculture, and gender equality.
  • Youth must be at the center – The forum emphasized the need to support and fund youth-led solutions and innovation in the climate space.
  • Policy must meet practice – Community voices and grassroots realities must inform climate policy and implementation frameworks.
  • Health systems are climate systems – Strengthening climate-resilient healthcare infrastructure is essential for safeguarding the wellbeing of vulnerable populations.
Being part of the Nigeria Climate Change Forum has further inspired us to deepen our efforts, expand our reach, and amplify our advocacy for climate justice and health equity.

We are returning from this experience with renewed energy, valuable connections, and practical insights that will shape the next phase of our work at CHEA. From promoting climate-smart healthcare to scaling climate literacy in schools, we remain committed to driving change where it matters most.
