School Health Empowerment Initiative

OUR STORY

In many underserved communities across Nigeria, young children face severe barriers to accessing basic education and healthcare. Parents struggle with financial instability, leaving them unable to pay school fees, which leads to high dropout rates, especially among under-five and early primary school pupils. These children, often from climate-vulnerable households, are left at home while their peers attend class. Without education, they remain trapped in a cycle of poverty and climate-related health risks. CHEA recognized this silent crisis and intervened.

Project Summary

In early 2024, CHEA launched the School Health Empowerment Initiative, an urgent response to increase school retention among vulnerable children in climate-affected regions. The project identified 30 children from low-income families across two (2) public schools in Northern Nigeria and paid their school fees for the academic term. This act not only lifted a heavy burden off the shoulders of struggling parents but gave children a renewed opportunity to learn, grow, and dream again.
